COMMUNITY

Since August 2016 we have designed and implemented a number of arts-based, psychosocial programs in partnership with refugee and host communities in Cairo, Damietta and Alexandria. Interventions have utilized Theatre of the Oppressed, Psychodrama, Playback Theatre and Expressive Arts to address sexual and gender based violence, collective trauma, communal tensions and other issues arising from the experience of war and displacement. Participants have included over 1,000 women, men and youth from Egypt, Syria, Sudan, Yemen, Ethiopia, Palestine, Eritrea and Somalia.

We also operate Dawar El Ezba, a community cultural centre based in Ezbet Khairallah, one of Cairo’s largest informal settlements. The centre offers arts-based programming for local residents and neighbouring communities.
